Just Monkeying Around [SOLO RP, Adventure Start!]

This place was much quieter than the bustling city he was use to. Sure, it was also technically a city, but there was an air here that was different than Jubilife. People didn't feel like they were constantly in a rush to get where they needed to go. If anything, this place had the same vibe as Sandgem... Those sandy beaches was something Kennen enjoyed going to every so often. It reminded him of his time in Alola... Even though those days are long gone. Yet, he was starting anew again, in a different region ready to start his own adventure.

He had heard beginning trainers usually took their first steps through Viridian  City and to travel through the forest to the north. It seemed like a weird concept... To travel so linearly. Sinnoh had a variety of different paths for new trainers to take on. Kenny guessed Kanto was just more old fashioned. In other words, more boring.

Looking around the city, he saw a lamp post with a large enough perch to house a person. Seemed like something fun to do. Giving a toothy grin, the tanned man jumped up and got a good footing onto the post, and used it as a spring to push himself up higher. His hands grabbed the perch, and he did a flip on the pole to launch himself. Spinning in the air, he managed to land perfectly on the perch, and sat down. Seemed sturdy enough to handle his weight.

Looking around, he saw a few people just give him odd stares, before continuing on their daily lives. Probably saw him as a wacky foreigner, but that was whatever. He enjoyed that rush. Jubilife offered a lot of opportunity for parkour, so this was a piece of cake in comparison to some of the rounds he had people do at the gym.

Rummaging through his satchel, he found the lone Pokeball sitting there, and pressed it open. A small, fiery monkey emerged and give his trainer a wide grin. This was his partner, Rama. He was a cheeky little guy, but the Chimchar was a fast friend ever since he hatched from that egg. Part of the reason he decided to travel was because of the Chimchar. The Pokemon wanted adventure, and awoken Kenny's desire for it as well. Though, the ticket to Kanto costed him most of his funds...

Grabbing a a few snacks from hi bag, Kenny started to eat while gazing over Viridian. Seeing thing from a flying-type's point of view always helped give a different perspective. Was a fun thing to do, see how things have changed from day to day. After this snack, he'd go to whatever seemed most fun and interesting at the time. But for now, Kenny decided to just chill with Rama perched on top of the lamp post.

There was a lot to see from Kennen's vantage point, and as spring slowly became summer, the air was filled with warm. There were plenty of scents to sniff and more people could be seen milling about the urban jungle: and it certainly was that. Viridian City was a hub of buildings small and tall, with travellers from all walks and routes of life. One of them that stood out to the young man's Chimchar was a woman a little older than Kennen: tall, draped in mostly orange, with a Monferno at her side. Had she come from Sinnoh herself?

There were Pokemon without trainers, though, too. A Pidove strut along the concrete, pecking at crumbs on the ground, and a Snubbull growled at the bird from the side of the trainer it was lingering at as they talked to someone else outside the Trainer's School. Rama's eyes were taken by it all, including something that seemed to catch the light as it floated on by, not entirely visible to the naked eye. Was it for real, or was he and his trainer seeing things...?

Before the thought could be entirely completed, something small and blue suddenly launched itself as the duo. It was a very bold and playful Azurill that had seen their perching power as a challenge! It seemed that more than monkeys could monkey around, but the pair would need to think fast unless they wanted to take a tumble!

There were a few interesting things happening in the city to Kenny. There seemed to be a woman dressed in orange with a Monferno at her side. Could be another person from Sinnoh? Would be interesting. It seemed Rama was also interested in her to some extent.


Besides that there seemed to be a Pidove pecking at the ground, and a Snubull growling at it. Just felt like daily life overall. As quiet as this place was, it still had the same daily happenings as a larger city such as Jubilife. There seemed to be more things that Rama was interested in, but Kenny couldn't really understand what the Chimchar was so fixed on.

Then, a blue blur started to fly towards them. Looked like it was an Azurill who saw his parkour as a challenge, and was heading straight towards them. He needed to think quick, or the Azurill would just knock both him and Rama off.

"Okay buddy, let's do this! Fire Punch the Azurill, do it so you slam it into the ground. Use that momentum to drop a Brick Break onto it, and then stare it down with a Leer when we reach the ground!" Kenny ordered as he grabbed the railing, preparing to swing down to land onto the ground.

There were a lot of things happening, but this was certainly the most important. Thankfully, Kenny was as fast a thinker as he was a jumper, and he reacted quickly to the Azurill's assault. Rama was perceptive, excited to have something to start, and he launched a burning fist at the little fairy. He aimed to push it towards the ground, which was a bold strategy! Let's see if it pays off!

About that - the blue bundle of bobbles bounced back up just as fast from the momentum, slamming poor Rama in the face on its way up and winding him! Whoops! Rama spluttered, not expecting such a heavy strike (purely of his own doing, mind you), but he attempted to right himself. He leered at the Azurill, but before he can pull off the brick break, the Azurill blows a barrage of bubbles at him in close range. The Poor Chimchar cried out, swiping at his face and fur, and when they both land they do so at an equal distance. The Pidove had flown away, and there are several eyes on Kenny, clearly curious as to how this battle will go.

Don't screw it up, rookie!

Kenny started to bite his lip. He wasn't going to lose to that Azurill, no matter the cost. Its bubble attack was certainly a problem, though. There was no way for Rama to get in safely... Unless recklessness was the key. The foe was very buoyant, well, more specifically the tail. If he was able to get the Azurill off its tail, that may work.

"Already Rama, we're not going to lose here. Give it another fire punch, aim for the tail! We need to get it off balance. If it works, just keep on the offensive and smash it into the ground with Brick Break, if not just try and get out of range while dodging a potential counter attack!" Kenny ordered.

Punching was Rama's specialty but with an enemy bouncier than both Kenny and Rama combined, the two hadto be careful. Thankfully, the trainer had a strategy in mind. Azurill's Thick Fat did take the edge off fiery assaults, but that didn't change the fact that the hit to the tail was very disarming. The little fairy cried out in surprise as its anchor was taken out from under it, unbalancing it in mid air, only to be slammed down by a Brick Break. The Pokemon began to sob, and Rama felt his heart strings tug as it landed, seemingly causing the Chimchar to lower its guard. Well, that was an easy win, right?

-- Or not. Maybe. Still kicking its legs as if upset and having a baby tantrum, it suddenly sprayed jets of water about the vicinity, almost catching the human on the lamp post. Azurill had used Water Sport, further curbing the elemental side of Rama's skillset! The fight was far from over, it seemed, even with the brutal damage the Azurill had taken. What to do now?

"What a brat," Kenny spat in disgust. "Whiners either quit and whipped into shape."

Feeling the rage swell up in his body, Kenny wanted only one thing now: to beat the Azurill into submission. At first, it was just a fun little challenge, but it sparked his competitive side and well... it was a pure, fiery blaze of hunger. He could feel adrenaline rush through his veins and he wanted more. He wanted this rush, and it would grant him victory. Sure, he was called the adrenaline monkey by some, and it was an apt fit. In this state, he will win, no matter what. But at the same time, he'll toy and mock with whoever as he see fits to further his victory. You don't give up, you push until you get your goal. That was one of his philosophies.

"Keep up the assault!" Kenny barked out. "Brick Break it further into the ground. Wait to see how it reacts and just be careful. If it wants to act like a child, it'll get toyed with like one." Was this demoralizing? Sure, but those who push through it got stronger.

It wasn't anything totally new to you, but you felt like your body was on fire. It was like the rage in your heart had lit you right up, and it was showing its ugly head. Whether you had forgotten the people watching you or just didn't care remained to be seen, but Rama was ready. Elemental damage might have been near pointless, but the Chimchar's fighting prowess needn't be underestimated. His fist powered through the jet of bubbles that the Azurill sent his way, taking a small splash of damage that paled in comparison to the bouncing baby's own injuries. It cried out, albeit with less exaggerated fakery than before, as it bounced and dropped unconscious along the concrete.

You had defeated the level seven, female Azurill, raising Rama to level six! It was prime for capture if you so desired, but chances were, someone else would snag it up if you weren't bothered. A girl with a Snubbull certainly seemed intrigued, watching for your next move, her expression unreadable beyond curiosity. What to do...?

Kenny could only feel his adrenaline as the Azurill fainted. Part of him wanted to continue, grind the thing into dust. It would be fun, for a bit, until it not fighting back bored him. Taking a deep breath, he started to collect himself. He could easily play the part of a berserker when he got into the mood, but he'd feel guilty afterwards. He couldn't bring himself to actually hurt someone beyond what was necessarily. He pushed limits, not broke them.

"Stand down Rama," he told his Chimchar before motioning it to come to him. Rama climbed up onto his shoulder, and Kenny couldn't help but laugh.

"It was a good fight, little dude. Not a Pokemon I want but..." he trailed off before seeing a girl eye it. "If you want it, you can have it," he told her before giving a wave and headed off towards the Pokemon Center. Got to keep Rama in top condition, after all.

You called off Rama in spite of your temptation to continue. Part of you fantasised about wailing on the baby more, but deep down, you couldn't be so merciless towards an innocent. Noticing a girl eyeing the Azurill, you offered for her to take it since you had no interest and left for the Pokemon Centre. Your Chimchar needed to be in top shape, after all!

It wasn't far away at all, and approaching the sliding doors you could already tell that it was busy. It wasn't a surprise given that the location was pretty central. You and Rama looked around while you waited, taking in the mixed sight of people - a group of girls gossiping over lunch, sat on the floor out of the way; a man definitely a few years older with a chipper Magnemite and some girl that people were crowding around and taking pictures of. She was certainly familiar and seemed perfectly comfortable with the situation. Those who weren't gathering around her were at least trying to get a peek of what was going on.

There was only one person in front of you, and even from the back, he was beautiful: hair split evenly between black and white; short at the front with a braid cascading down the back of his sleeveless and high-collared green shirt. The top of him was set for the summer at least, but the tight black pants and mid-calf boots must have been a bit stuffy when there was no air con to cool him. He thanked Nurse Joy for the three Poke Balls he took back before moving towards the basement stairs, likely off to use a PC. The nurse greeted you, identical to most of the others in her line of work.

"Welcome to the Pokemon Centre! Can I help you today?"

Kenny walked into the Pokemon Center and took in the surroundings. It was busy, with trainers of all kinds making their way around the center. The building seemed to be a hub for all Pokemon Trainers, from being able to access their storage to healing their Pokemon. It also seemed like a place he'd be frequenting from now on too.

The crowd didn't really interest him. Sure, the girl looked familiar, but don't most people look familiar in some way? He was more interested in getting Rama healed up. He saw that there was someone already at the counter, and just waited behind the person. He could tell it was a man based on his physique, and he certainly was beautiful just by looking at his back, but he didn't really seem to be Kenny's type. The weird hair style and clothes wasn't attractive to him, and Kenny just sighed. He wasn't too interesting anymore.

After a few minutes, it was finally Kenny's turn. He watched the man head down the stairs, and then heard the nurse asking him what she could do for him. They all looked the same, these nurses. Guess it was the uniform.

"Uh, yeah! Can you heal my Chimchar please?" Kenny asked as he just placed Rama and his Poke Ball on the counter. He was content on just standing around and waiting.

"Of course. Please wait a moment." The nurse replied amicably. You were content just to wait and not bother to investigate anything that was going on around you, when someone tapped you on the shoulder. It was a young boy in a school uniform, white hair unkempt and in all directions, and he offered you a flyer. In the background you could hear the healing machine doing its work and the sounds of Chansey going back and forth.

"Excuse me, mister. You've got only one Pokemon, right? Are you starting out?" He didn't wait for an answer before pushing the paper not so subtly towards you. "The Trainer's School is having a battle tournament in its basement in a few hours. The prizes are pretty cool, you should check it out! We have different ones on different days, but today's for newbies! It's a good way to network and get some practice!"

It looked like there was prize money involved and some mystery goodies. Surely it'd appeal to your competitive spirit. Something had to appeal to your spirit, otherwise your updater's likely to kick your teeth out via Rapidash. Work with them, damn it!

Kenny continued to wait around, waiting for Rama to get healed up. It's not like something interesting was going to happen. Once Rama was healed, he'd probably run around the city a bit more, see if there was any hidden gems. He then felt a tap on his shoulder, and turned around to see a young boy in a school uniform, white hair incredibly messy looking at him. He was definitely cute, but too young for him. Kenny just looked at him in the eyes.

The boy basically shoved a flyer into his face, and explained that the trainer's school was having a tournament for new trainers. He remembered those. Jubilife's tended to be these grand events, with schools all around Sinnoh coming to compete. Seemed this just was part of the school's after school program here. Though, it sounded fun. He loved a good competition.

"Yeah, sure kid, I'll be there!" Kenny exclaimed, a competitive grin creeping across his face.

"So, what time does it start? Or is that on this flyer?" Kenny asks, actually deciding to give the flyer a read over. It'd give him the info he needed.

He felt giddy, like he was going to relive his school days. He'd probably still fit in his uniform... He was pretty short and stopped growing a lot sooner than everyone else. He could easily blend in as a school kid, thinking about it.

"Like I said, in two hours! Sign ups'll close forty-five minutes before!" The boy told you enthusiastically. Indeed, it was on the flyer, which was decorated with the school's logo and fearsome photos of Meganium, Typhlosion and Feraligatr at the forefront. The tournament promised $1500 in prize money, and of course, it'd be a good experience all around for a new nomad such as Kenny. Clearly the student was happy to have a successful sign up as well. "The trainer's school is just around the corner, it's pretty big and you can't miss it! Really modern looking! So, I'll see you there?"

There's a sweet chime behind you, and a cheerful Chansey is offering Chimchar's Poke Ball to you from behind the counter. Looks like you're ready to roll with plenty of time to spare for treasure hunting, Pokemon recruitment or more lamp-posting. What do you do?

Kenny listens to the kid as he's given directions, and then watches as the boy just runs off to a different part of the Pokemon Center. Seemed he had some time to kill, and Rama was ready to go. He could look for some treasure or a new Pokemon partner, that mighty be helpful in the tournament. He could also go look for some booty. That could be fun. It was his first day in Kanto after all. There were multiple ways to enjoy the scenery.

With a smirk, he bolts out of the Pokemon Center. Time to explore the town his way, and he jumps up onto another lamp post. This should serve as a good vantage point for now, and would help him mentally map the city. After all, it was always easy to spot something fun from a bird's eye view.

You were back up on another lamp post like some epic poser from an anime, or like Mewtwo in urban spaces in the night time. You know, deep down, which one you resemble best. This is a good vantage post for you, and from it you can see quite a lot. What looks like swaying, floating metal is floating away from the back door of an establishment and near the tree line there's a floating ring of flowers. You can even see a more solid Pokemon of white and blue, but mostly because embedded sapphires seem to be catching the sun just right. Not far away, a Tailow pecks seeds from the ground, struggling to break them open; a teasing Chespin watching from nearby.

There were plenty of Pokemon around, it seemed, if you were looking for partners and fairies seemed to be in abundance. As for cute booty to pursue? Well, there were plenty of people around, but good things don't always come to those who stand around on lamp posts that weren't made for standing on. If you want treasure, you'll have to hunt for it, me hearty!

Kenny looked at the Pokemon he saw before him. The Chespin did interest him a little bit, Chestnaught was a cool Pokemon... And a Grass type would help against water-typed Pokemon. Yeah, that'd be a respectable target. And it was bullying that poor Taillow. Even if he didn't want it, h at least wanted to teach it a lesson. Jumping down from the lamp post, Kenny grabbed Rama's Pokeball and rushed towards the Chespin.

Letting Rama out once he was closer, he decided he'd give the Pokemon a surprise attack. Teach it that there was always something bigger than it. Kenny just smirked as he looked at his Chimchar, and gave it a nod.

"Alright Rama, see that Chespin there? Give it two Fire Punches to the face. Let's see who's laughing now,|" he gave Rama orders and then stood back. This should be quick enough.

From all of the people and Pokemon you saw around you, you decided that the Chespin was the best target. Not only was its final evolution appealing to you, but you wanted to teach it a lesson for being a bully - which was ironic given the Azurill thing, if nothing else. Rama is released, something which the poor Tailow and its sensitivity had noticed. The bird took flight, upsetting the Chespin, only for it to be taken aback by the agile Chimchar's fire punches. It sent the Chespin barelling backwards, and the grass type picked itself up, frowning as it begins to glow green. It was using Synthesis! Chespin might not have been laughing, but it certainly wasn't crying. To get its own back, it rushed after Rama, sending the Chimchar reeling with a Punch of its own that Powered Up its attack strength. This was definitely a worthy opponent, but were you both up to the test?
